Overview of Homeopathy as an Alternative Medicine

April 25th, 2012

Homeopathic medicine is an alternative medical system that aims to promote the body?s ability of self-healing. It stimulates the body to heal itself through very low dosages of highly diluted natural substances. More commonly known as homeopathy, the term comes from the Greek words homeo and pathos, which means similar and disease, respectively. This method was developed about three centuries ago by Samuel Christian Hahnemann, a German doctor.

Homeopathic medicine works under two principles: like cures like (the principle of similars) and law of minimum dose (principle of dilutions). According to the first principle, an ailment can be treated by a substance that causes the same symptoms in healthy people. For example, if the symptoms of cold are the same with poisoning due to mercury, then mercury will be used to cure the cold. The second principle states that the smaller dosages of a substance are, the more effective they are in treating diseases.

Homeopathic remedies involve a process called potentization in which substances are diluted one by one and shaken very well in between the dilutions. This process transfer some energy or essence from the original substance to the dilution, thus stimulating the body?s ability to heal on its own. Homeopathic remedies use substances in highly diluted forms. Usually, these are made up of one part of the substance to about 1,000,000,000,000 parts of water.

Today, homeopathic medicine continues to be used for preventing and curing a wide range of acute and chronic diseases such as headaches, fever, colds, asthma, allergies, depression, skin rashes, digestive problems, chronic fatigue syndrome, and ear infections. Even serious medical conditions such as diabetes and cancer can be treated with homeopathic remedies, though these illnesses need longer treatment time. Despite its being an alternative medical treatment, homeopathic medicine has been widely practiced. In the United States, homeopathic medicine was used by about 900,000 children and 3.9 million adults in 2006 alone.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Homeopathy. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

Unlike traditional medicine, homeopathic treatments are tailored for different individuals, even those with the same condition. Simply put, homeopathic medicine treats the person, not the disease?so one medication may not treat two persons with the same disease. Using this therapeutic method, homeopathic doctors treat people based on their body type, health and genetic history, and current emotional, physical, and mental conditions. Patients who undergo homeopathic treatment are required to follow a strict diet and avoid stimulants such as strong tea, coffee, alcohol, and nicotine that affect the potency of the medication. Also, the medicines should be taken before meals. The healing process is delayed if the patient fails to follow the diet and restrictions involved in the homeopathic treatment.

Homeopathic treatment uses various medicines derived from animals, plants, minerals, and other substances. Some of the common sources of homeopathic medicines include the following:

1. Plants – onion, cactus, belladonna, capsicum, etc.
2. Minerals – arsenious acid, nitric acid, iron phosphorous
3. Animals – snake poisons
4. Substances – milk, sand, etc.

Some people may have doubts about homeopathy. But there?s no basis to such doubts because homeopathic medicines are harmless and have no side effects.

Those who only know one or two facts about Homeopathy can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

Limitations And Risks Of Homeopathy

April 25th, 2012

This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding Homeopathy. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about Homeopathy.

Since its establishment, homeopathy has become one of the popular alternative medicines. Homeopathy works on the principle ?Law of Similars?, which simply means that what causes the sickness could also be the source of the cure. Homeopathic patients are exposed to substances that creates or mimics illness symptoms. Patients would usually undergo a temporary worsening of their condition. This would eventually pass and would strengthen the patient?s immune and body system.

There are studies showing that there are patients who have responded well with homeopathy eventually reducing their risks of sicknesses. For example, there was a survey conducted by MedScape Today showing that out of their respondents, 38.4% of adults and 41.8% of children are satisfied with their homeopathic treatments and were able to experience relief from their medical conditions.

However, homeopathy is not a ?magic cure? which could cure everything. Just like any other medical field, it has it limitations.

? There are medical conditions which do not respond well with homeopathic medication especially those that would need surgery. It is important to reiterate that homeopaths are not against surgical procedure. Homeopathic practitioners are also doctors, they could understand the importance of surgery.

? Conditions which are caused because of nutritional deficiencies cannot be resolved by homeopathy. Also, there are conditions that an individual may experience due to lifestyle, like exposure to harmful substances causing the disease. Changing or having a nutritional/diet plan and a change of lifestyle are the solutions for such problem.

See how much you can learn about Homeopathy when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.

? There are some cases when the patient is not responding to treatment. Although the symptoms are evident, there are certain cases when a patient do not exhibit worsening or lessening of the symptoms. Identifying what kind of treatment would work for the patient would usually take a long time.

? Another disadvantage would be the lack of homeopaths and homeopathic facilities where treatments could be administered. Some patients would find it difficult to look for a homeopathic practitioner. There are even some patients who would getting homeopathic treatments just because their practitioner died or retired or they moved to another house. This proves that some followers are unable to find good and reputable homeopaths. Although, there are homeopathic practitioners broadcasting their resume on the internet, they can be ?quack? homeopaths and caution should be practiced.

? On the technical aspect, insurance companies do not cover homeopathy treatments. This is another reason why some individuals would go to conventional hospitals to get treated since it can be covered by the insurance

Given these limitations, the patient and his or her family should be prepared for whatever happens with the treatment. If the patient is not responding to treatment or the symptoms are recurring, most homeopaths would recommend that the patient check with medical doctors.

In homeopathy, it is important to realize that there are boundaries. Not all diseases could be cured by this alternative treatment. The good thing is that homeopaths in the U.S. are also medical practitioners. They are able to define when conventional medicine should replace alternative medication.

It never hurts to be well-informed with the latest on Homeopathy. Compare what you’ve learned here to future articles so that you can stay alert to changes in the area of Homeopathy.

Feng Shui Improvements for the Bedroom

April 24th, 2012

Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with Feng Shui? This informative report can give you an insight into everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Feng Shui.

It is universally preferred that bedrooms must be rectangular in shape. A square shaped bedroom follows this preference then come the bedroom that is irregular in shape. This is so because the rectangular bedroom is the easiest way to decorate. Most items and furniture that goes inside the bedroom are rectangular and the decoration and items are better suited for that which takes on the shape of the room. The more irregular the shapes of the room, the more discomfort the occupant of the room feels, sometimes for reasons that are really not easy to dip a finger into.

For Feng shui experts, these could be explained in several ways and takes into consideration a lot of variables. But first things first. The most important room in the house is the master’s bedroom. This is the room where the Don Juan Tenoso of the house is bedded, the chairman of the board finds solace and the supreme pontiff rests. What happens in the main bedroom will affect to a very large extent the harmony all over the house, its well being and its finances. And so for Feng shui experts, this is a room that is taken very seriously.

To make this bedroom fit for the one who exerts the greatest influence in the household, careful considerations are placed. Examples are:

The direction of the bedroom in relation to the general house design, its sector from the point of the compass, and its shape. The position of the bed, the colors that are and should be employed including the decorations that are most appropriate. For Feng shui experts, this goes without saying that even the smallest of detail must have relevancy similar to how a modern interior decorator does in making judgments and decisions.

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

The shape.
While it is often best to have a rectangular bedroom, there will always be the personal preference of the occupant. If the room happens to be irregular in shape, screen dividers that signify good fortune are often employed. The fun thing though is that, often these screen dividers will be placed in such a way that the configuration of the room will be altered to a semblance rectangularity. While mirrors are often placed in posts to direct flow of the chi, these are not employed in the bedrooms as Feng shui cures.

Positioning the bed.
In Feng shui every individual has a Kua number. This determines the best position for the bed and is decided by Feng shui experts. If the best position cannot be achieved because of the location and direction of the room, the next best direction is chosen. As mentioned the kua number is a more personal thing and so the Feng shui expert is in a position to make the determination as this also involves placements of the kua trigrams in the eight direction of the room where each represents a family member and their individual directions.

The Color.
As bedrooms are places of rests, it is not wise to make rooms, decorations, sheets etc. to be brightly colored. Muted colors are preferred. Some aspects of these though could be changed depending on the personality of the occupant and which side of the character needs to be augmented. The general rule though is not to make the room appear neither too yin nor too yang.

For decorations, Symbols of love placed in the direction of the South and the West is believed to enhance relationships and love.

Groovy Exercise: Aerobic Dance

April 23rd, 2012

Aerobic dancing combines exercises and different forms of dances like ballet and jazz into an exercise routine. They are usually considered low-impact exercises and slower paced compared with other aerobic routines, although there are also fast-paced routines. Because of these characteristics, they are very ideal for those who need low-impact routines like the elderly, overweight and those who are pregnant.

What makes aerobic dance an interesting routine is, of course, its music. There are different types of music which can be used for different aerobic dances, there are different speed and style variations of aerobic dances. There are guidelines for aerobic music. It is usually about 120 to 124 beats per minute for step aerobics. For low-impact exercises, it is usually about 136 to 148 beats per minute. Beginners would dance or sweat it out with slower beats.

Aerobic dance could be classified into high-impact exercises, low-impact, step aerobics and water dance aerobics. High impact exercises, as its name implies, would involve intensive exercises which includes jumping actions synchronized with the music. Step aerobics uses the step bench, and the water aerobics is performed in waist-deep water.

Aside from the movements along with the music, aerobic dance is also combined with fast or aerobic breathing. This pumps more oxygen into the blood stream, rejuvenating the body. Aerobic dances are usually done from 20 to 30 minutes, practiced for three times a week. The routine is performed just like rhythmic dances, with counts essential in setting the rhythm.

The more authentic information about Aerobics you know, the more likely people are to consider you a Aerobics expert. Read on for even more Aerobics facts that you can share.

Before proceeding with the routine, getting warmed-up is important. It would usually last for 10 to 15 minutes. These stretching exercises will lower risks of injury and at the same time prepare the body for any extensive movement. After the routine proper, relaxing or cooling down movements for another 5 to 15 minutes will be performed to help the heart and the muscles relax.

Aerobic dancing has many benefits even though they were done or practiced in a fun way. This kind of aerobic workout is a great way to lose weight and at the same time, tone body muscles. It would also help the body develop strength among bones who carry most the body?s weight and also toughen cardiovascular muscles.

Just like other exercises, aerobic dance can increase the circulation of the blood, reduce the levels of blood sugar and cholesterol. Because aerobic dancing would include proper breathing exercises, more oxygen is circulated in the heart, lungs and blood vessels which makes the body to function better, produce higher energy and stamina. Its physical benefits would also include boosting of the immune system, preparing the body against colds, flu, etc.

Aerobic dancing is also a great way to keep stress away. This could break the stressful and monotonous routine we have at home, school or in the work place. It can even allow you to develop or practice your creativity, since you can create your own dance steps or routine. If you cannot leave the house to go to a gym, you could do the aerobic exercises at home, learn the steps and pick your own song. How fun it is to stay healthy with aerobics by swaying your hips!

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing–the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.

Colocation Magnified

April 23rd, 2012

The following article covers a topic that has recently moved to center stage–at least it seems that way. If you’ve been thinking you need to know more about it, here’s your opportunity.

You have decided to set up your small business and one of the vital components on your list is a site that can showcase your products and services to the market. At this point you know that all you have to do is choose from a wide array of web hosting selections. You don?t have to look further and dig into complicated details because colocation is just the right thing for you.

Colocation has been the common choice for budding businesses that demand the high-tech functioning of a well-versed IT team for the simple reason that the price is just right. But what really is this colocation all about? Let?s take a look.

You start by getting your own hardware. You then contact a provider and kick off the machine set-up in their own rack. Once the servers are physically present the company provides the power, bandwidth, and IP to your servers. You get full access to the system just like any other web hosting but the big difference is you own and control the machines.

Furthermore, you get your money?s worth in terms of bandwidth. The standard rate for the bandwidth of a business grade DSL line runs between 150 and 200 dollars. For the same rate or even cheaper a single server can be built in a colocation space handing you higher speeds and better redundancy.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Colocation story from informed sources.

Outage protection is another issue that can be easily handled by colocation facilities. There may be environmental and technical factors that can lead to energy source breakdown. This will give your site a really long slumber. The good thing about being connected with providers is that you are paying for backup power generators designed to face any kind of outage.

As mentioned above the good thing about being colocated is that you have authority on all your machines. If you start to see that the server is beginning to function slowly or there isn?t enough memory to carry out all the tasks then you can simply proceed with the upgrade. There is no need to wait for other people to act on your behalf.

Software is also important in ensuring the performance of your site and since in this type of hosting you are the absolute owner you also get to choose which ones to install. You don?t need to seek the permission or advice of your provider. You get to choose the internal elements that you think can help your server run even better.

Stability is another boost if you?re colocating. If there comes a time that you have to move and you host your own domain you have to painstakingly deal with the actual transfer of the domain and the downtime of your site. But since you?ve chosen to have a facility that houses your server then you just go on with your activity while having the peace of mind that your servers are up and running.

In colocation you are assured that your machines are kept in a secured area. You can also opt to add some extra fees to your provider for the maintenance of your hardware particularly when your office is too far from the site or you don?t have the manpower to do the job.

Choosing Your Colocation Backup And Storage

April 22nd, 2012

Backup and storage are two of the most important factors in the search and selection of a colocation facility. Mission-critical information that cannot be compromised needs to be stored and backed up in a very secure environment, whether it is in your own servers or in a colocation facility.

With the number of choices in the market, it can be a tough decision considering that it can be difficult accessing your storage and backup needs. Fortunately, these systems can be integrated with one another and can still work seamlessly.

Choice

To ensure you make the most suitable choice, it is best to first determine your system?s storage needs. Determining the solutions (and combinations of solutions) that meet your requirements would come easier, especially in a colocation setup.

Fortunately again, there are three basic types of storage and backup solutions for your servers ? DAS (direct access storage), NAS (network attached storage) and SAN (storage area network). Knowing them and what they can do by themselves and in tandem can help in making your decision.

Direct attached storage (DAS)

Most of today?s businesses use DAS in the storage and backup system of their data. For comparison, DAS is basically similar to most external hard drives of personal computers where they can be attached at will.

This is one storage system that is best for smaller businesses which do not have demanding storage needs. The major downside, however, is that your system is slowed down while storing files and running your applications all at the same time.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Colocation story from informed sources.

This is simply caused by the fact that DAS solutions are limited in capacity and is not really that appropriate for large-scale storage needs. If your business is booming, it may serve as a temporary solution, not a permanent one.

Network attached storage (NAS)

NAS works by having additional capacity on your server while keeping it separate from your running applications. It is perfect for businesses that use networked computing.

The big selling point for NAS is enhanced productivity and cost efficiency. With NAS in place, your server can be managed centrally without affecting the other networked servers that run your applications.

Storage area network (SAN)

Among the three, SAN is the more advanced data storage and backup system. It is best for larger businesses that require a system?s ability to transfer multiple files in more stable fiber connections.

However efficient it is (and becoming more popular), SAN is one solution that is relatively new. Moreover, it lacks the compatibility needed to make it more appealing to more customers.

As it is, SAN is greatly more complex and expensive compared to both DAS and NAS. Today, only the big companies who can afford it are using SAN as their main storage and backup system. The biggest reason is its ability to handle the high volume of traffic that is becoming the norm of the internet business at present.

Ultimately, the choice of your company?s storage and backup system depends largely on the size of your present needs and costs. In a colocation facility, your company?s continuing expansion can be supported with the right storage and backup system.

So now you know a little bit about Colocation. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

Storytelling During Halloween

April 21st, 2012

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Halloween in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

This might not be a great practice especially since children scare easily but still there are quite a number of relevant stories which you can tell during a storytelling session in a Halloween party or event. Even if it?s not Halloween, you will always have a request from your listeners to tell a scary story. So people have more excuse to demand a scary story during this day of the year when spirits and monsters are supposed to be free to roam the surface world.

Aside from scary stories, you can also narrate mystery type of stories. Having a storytelling session in your Halloween party program will keep the children quiet and at bay. This is also a good opportunity to prepare other things for the party.

What stories to tell? You can search the internet for various short scary stories that have both the Halloween scare factor and at the same time children will learn something productive and inspiring at the end of the story.

You can even draw from personal experiences or stories. It?s often ?cool? hearing a story from someone who has experienced it first had or was really there. This gives the story a personal touch and the kids just love the idea of stories happening for real.

Remember not to overdo it though. These are children we?re talking about and if you scare them witless, they will certainly have nightmares and you?ll have parents breathing down your neck the next day. Now that would be a real scary situation for you as organizer or storyteller.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

If you lack some modern shorts and have not time to prepare your own stories, you can always turn to the classics. There are several classic ghost stories that children nowadays have yet to hear.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of them. The headless horseman of Washington Irving is sure make some children gasp. You can tell the story of the Flying Dutchman, a mysterious ship that is said to be a doom ship that brings bad things to other ships that crosses their paths. Dr. Frankenstein?s monster is also always popular.

Another classic is A Ghost Story by Mark Twain which has several adaptations that you could read for the kid?s enjoyment. Algernon Blackwood?s The Willows is said to be the best ghost story in history. You might also find some suitable adaptation for children somewhere in your bookstore or on the internet. Another work of Blackwood is The Empty House which is also pretty good.

Now, I have to remind you at this point that you will be reading these stories to children. You might want to kind versions that would be easier for children to grasp and understand. If you?re Halloween party is for adults, which I also think putting a storytelling session is a great idea, you can be as eloquent as you want. But in the meantime, simple and short adaptations would be better for children?s party.

If for some reason you can?t get any storytellers for your party, other options would be buying an audio or video CD of various ghost stories. There are several of these in the market and you can easily buy one off the rack of your favorite bookshop or audio store.

The idea here is to keep your options open. Of course Halloween parties involve game and prizes but having a Halloween storytelling session can be both fun and productive.

Those who only know one or two facts about Halloween can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

The Best Types Of Aerobics

April 21st, 2012

Since the 80s, aerobics took the world of exercise by storm. Different from high intensity workouts used by professional athletes before, aerobics is a moderate exercise that is effective in improving one?s overall fitness.

After being developed by Dr. Kenneth Cooper, regular aerobics exercises and routines had been enhanced and were given innovations since its inception into the mainstream of modern life.

A big part of the appeal of aerobics on almost everybody is the fact that it is simply any moderate physical activity that can be performed continuously for a certain length of time.

This type of exercise works the body at the lower end of the target heart rate area, causing the heart and lungs to adapt and become strong.

Because of this, aerobics is known as the best cardio and weight-loss exercise routine. Most bodybuilders attest that aerobics provide a sustained calorie-burning effect not matched by any exercise.

The best aerobic exercise for burning fat and losing permanent weight will depend, of course, on the individual?s fitness level. If one has low fitness levels (most often, people who are just starting out), walking or step aerobics would probably be best.

Some recommendations

For starters, the best aerobics would include walking, running, jumping rope, ski machines, treadmills, rowers, health riders and more.

If you are just starting out or have not been working out lately, the best starter program is walking. Even if the fat-burning potential in walking is low, this is a great routine for beginners.

In time, on the advice of your trainer and doctor, you can step up your routine. Perhaps, you can later jog and increase the intensity level in your fat-burning.

It’s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of Aerobics. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

Running and cycling

Running or jogging, the logical next level after your walking is rated the best aerobic exercises by many experts. It has a high fat-burning capacity, and if done with consistency, will produce obvious results every practitioner can feel and see for themselves.

One should be on alert, though, on the danger for individuals to over-train. The name of the game is moderation, especially if you have some medical history of cardio-vascular problems. As always, consult your doctor first.

Cycling, either on a stationary bike or a real one, is another fun and excellent aerobics routine. Cross-country or mountain biking not only gives you the exercise benefits you want, but will also get you to see scenic places that can excite the mind.

Treadmills and weights

In treadmills, you can combine walking, jogging and perform resistance training as well. The possibility of doing high intensity exercise routines in treadmills makes them very effective aids in your fat-burning goals.

This is also true with other exercise gears in the gym like rowing machines. In rowing, the whole body routines can greatly help in burning calories.

On the advice of your trainer, you may add a light weight training session to your aerobics. This might be done at least thrice a week. Weight training with aerobics is a potent combination for burning fat as well as preserving and toning your muscles.

Moderation and consistency

In all of these, the main frame of mind of the exerciser should be consistency. Aerobics needs moderation. Anything more intense is another exercise program.

Now that wasn’t hard at all, was it? And you’ve earned a wealth of knowledge, just from taking some time to study an expert’s word on Aerobics.

Top Ten Myths about Homeopathy

April 20th, 2012

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about Homeopathy? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about Homeopathy.

Although homeopathy is popular as an alternative medicine, many people are not very much informed about how it really works. The following are 10 common misconceptions of people regarding homeopathic medicine.

Myth #1: Homeopathic treatments work slowly.

Certain conditions such as headache, colds, and flu can be cured quickly with homeopathic remedies. More serious diseases such as eczema and acne take longer to heal simply because they are complicated.

Myth #2: Homeopathic medicine does not work for serious and deadly illnesses.

This alternative medicine, like conventional medicine, can treat life-threatening ailments such as diabetes and cancer. In fact, some studies have shown that homeopathic medicine works just as well as conventional medicine in treating diseases such as malaria. However, not all deadly diseases are treatable with homeopathic medicine.

Myth #3: Homeopathic medicine is similar to Ayurvedic and herbal medicines.

All these three medical systems are alternative forms of medicine, but they are not one of the same. Homeopathic medicine uses natural substances diluted in alcohol or water, while herbal medicine uses plants. Ayurvedic medicine, which originated in India, works on the principle that all materials from plants, animals, and minerals can be used to cure diseases.

Myth #4: Homeopathic treatments are for humans only.

Homeopathic remedies can also be used on animals. These remedies are becoming popular for treating pet conditions like stress, anxiety, and allergies.

Myth #5: Homeopathic medications should not be used with modern medications.

Homeopathic medications can work well with modern medications. For example, patients who are going through chemotheraphy lessened the side effects with the help of homeopathic treatments.

The best time to learn about Homeopathy is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Homeopathy experience while it’s still free.

Myth #6: All homeopathic treatments for a certain disease work for all people.

Homeopathic medicine treats every person differently. Therefore, a single remedy will not treat every person who has the same disease or medical condition. The right remedy depends on the specific symptoms of a patient. This principle is a far cry from traditional medicine, which provides a single medication to treat general conditions.

Myth #7: Homeopathic medications are hard to find.

That was not a myth a few years back. But today, a lot of homeopathic remedies are available at major drug stores. Big retailers sell homeopathic medications for conditions such as flu, colds, and insomnia.

However, specialized remedies, or those prescribed by homeopaths for a certain case, are not readily available. Such medications are available on the Internet, at natural drug stores, and health food shops.

Myth #8: You can treat yourself once you have gained knowledge about homeopathic medicine.

For acute conditions such as flu and colds, this can be true. But treatment of chronic and complicated diseases requires the expertise of a well-trained homeopathic physician.

Myth #9: Homeopathic medicine has never been proven effective in large-scale trials.

This misconception, which stems from some people looking at the wrong information, is not true. Several successful trials are in fact quite large.

Myth #10: Homeopathic medications have no measurable substance.

Most homeopathic remedies have measurable substances, though some medicines for homeopathy contain substances that are not measurable.
